The latest Parrot MKi9200 kits come with software version 2.0 pre-installed. However, older kits can be updated by downloading the latest software. Downloading these files is easily done to a USB drive after setting up a folder with the correct name. Then you plug your USB drive into the USB music jack you already have in your car.

Ongoing Parrot software support

Some competing manufacturers believe that once the product is sold, their commitment is over. The parrot is different. They have excellent ongoing software support and this is one of the reasons why they are a market leader.

The 2012 version 2.0 software update for the Parrot MKi 9200, 9100 and 9000 offers a dual phone feature that allows two simultaneous Bluetooth connections. Future software features are in the works, for example ‘TextFriendly’ will allow users to read and compose text or email by voice.

Downloading MKi 9200 updates on a Windows PC

First of all, you need to set up your USB drive on your computer. If the USB device is not formatted, right-click ‘My Computer’ and click ‘Format’ from the drop-down menu. Be sure to choose FAT32 and not NTFS as the file format system.

Once you’re done, right click on the USB device in ‘My Computer’ and create a new folder called “ParrotUp” with no spaces and uppercase ‘P’ and ‘U’.

Then go to the Parrot website and from its home page click on:

Support > Download > Download Parrot Software Update Tool

It is important to download this general installer before going back to the same page and downloading the MKi 9200 device specific update files.

Most of the time, the 9200 file will be saved in the Windows “Downloads” folder. You will not be able to open it on a PC as your computer does not understand the format. You need to copy it to the ‘ParrotUp’ folder on your USB drive; all of this can be done by opening ‘My Computer’ and then right-clicking on my downloads.

The file will be named ‘MKi9200.plf’, please do not rename the file as MKi 9200 because the kit will not be able to find it on the USB stick.

Installing the MKi9200 update

You take the USB drive to the car. Start the car and wait for your kit to activate, which can take 10 seconds or more.

In your car kit, select:

Settings > Advanced Settings > Update

Now connect your USB drive to the car’s installed USB music connector. It may take a few minutes, but once finished, the kit will show “Update successful” and the Parrot MKi9200 will reboot automatically.

The current software version installed in your car kit can be viewed at:
