So you want to lose weight, and you’ve heard that Zumba is a fun way to do it. For those who lack coordination, are new to Latin dance, or don’t pick up the steps very easily, it can be intimidating. Fortunately, Zumba has created a great DVD class that will make it easy for you.

The Zumba DVD set comes with a total of four discs. The first has a class called the Zumba Basics Workout. This is the one that will teach you all the steps in detail. The Zumba Basics workout is a full hour covering 24 basic step variations and includes merengue, salsa, quebradita, cumbia, reggaeton, Caribbean Island, and samba.

The steps are brilliantly taught in what they call a 3 level easy rhythm system. The levels are as follows:

  1. The steps are taught slowly without movement of the arms or hips.
  2. In the next level the movements of the arms and hips are added but the rhythm is still done at half time.
  3. In the third level you do the full step at full pace.

For beginners, this is a great way to learn the Zumba steps. This is also a great way to learn the basics of Latin dance. When you’re comfortable with the steps, you’ll get more out of your workout and get faster results.

On the same DVD is the 20-minute express workout. This training will reinforce all the steps you just learned. It’s a quick way to get a fun cardio workout.
