Painting Techniques
When you look at oil paintings you will notice there are many different methods of painting called ‘painting techniques.’ The technique, a painter uses is entirely up to him or her. In fact, some painters use several different painting techniques to create their paintings. These different painting techniques can include watercolor painting, oil painting, drawing, dry-brushing and many more.
One of the most commonly used painting techniques is watercolor. It may seem difficult but if you practice it often you will find yourself enjoying this type of painting. This type of painting style involves using only small amounts of paint and a watercolor brush. For instance, to paint a landscape you will use a brush with a brown body and the tip of a pink color. You would use a similar brush and paint the landscape in a very light pink, using just a small amount of paint.
One of the newer methods of painting techniques is called finger painting. Many of the new “modern-day” artists use this technique as a way to capture the natural beauty that is present when a person touches a surface. Finger painting has come a long way from the early days of using baby’s fingernails to paint. Today artists use special pigments and even synthetic rubies to create unique finger painting styles that are attractive.
Various Painting Techniques
Another popular modern-day technique is called tempera. Tempera paintings are created by blending pastel-colored paints together using a plastic mold. When you blend the pastels with the paint they will be dispersed on the canvas in fine lines which gives the final painting a soft luminous appearance. Many of today’s modern artists have discovered the joys of creating works of art using tempera paints.
Other modern-day painting techniques include wet-on-dry brush painting. This technique requires the use of a brush which has a very wet brush and a dry brush which have had some water on it applied to it. These brushes are laid down on a canvas and once the painting is completed, the wet brush is wiped clean and the dry brush is laid off to be used on another canvas. This technique makes it easy for artists to complete multiple paintings of the same subject because there is no need to wait for the paint to dry between coats.
Many artists these days are using oil paint mixed with water. This type of painting technique is called oil painting. There are many different types of oils, but watercolor paint is considered to be the best. It has a medium which is slightly waxy and it can easily be diluted with water. The medium is able to give the artist a wide variety of colors to work with because each color has its own particles. Some people prefer to use only one type of watercolor paint while others like to mix and match different mixtures of watercolor paints.
