There are many faces of modern women present in the world. In the space of a day, she can be the professional at work, the companion and caregiver at home, and the fun-loving one with friends. No matter what the situation, women need to draw on a wide range of resources to keep everything under control. Harnessing the energy of the goddess is one way to ensure that you go through each day with her integrity intact.

The ancient goddesses were honored for many reasons: for a bountiful harvest, to keep family and home safe, or to accompany souls safely to the afterlife, to name a few. In this modern age, however, it’s not always practical to pray in a moonlit forest temple or build bonfires during an outdoor spring orgy.

So how else can a modern girl reconnect with her innate goddess energy? Simple. Choosing to be yourself and making decisions with intention. Every action, thought, projection of oneself, and treatment of others is a reflection of the goddess within.

As I posted on Goddess.com.au, “To be a goddess is to be able to recognize within yourself the things that are important and then play the single note that aligns them with everything else out there.” That is, by channeling the strengths of the real “You” so that the real You shines with honesty and dignity, your goddess energy radiates confidence, beauty, and inspiration to those around you.

There are seven aspects of the self that must be considered in order to achieve a balanced and enriching existence. Follow these tips to live each day and become a goddess.

self preservation. Being a goddess is about being in tune with yourself, being able to recognize threatening situations and respond with rationality and calm. Trust your instincts and act with confidence. Be aware of the influence of others’ moods and needs and stay balanced in times of difficulty. He exudes confidence and a dynamic presence by keeping his feet firmly on the ground, literally.

self gratification. Connect creatively, emotionally, and sexually with others through feeling, desire, sensation, and movement. Learn to accept change gracefully and don’t be afraid to show the depth of your feelings. Furthermore, a consciousness of poverty will only serve to deny you what you deserve. Abundance is good (greed is not), whether it is material, esoteric, emotional, or otherwise. Ask for what you want and deserve, and as long as it’s not for selfish reasons, give yourself permission to receive it.

self definition. Being a goddess is more than an alabaster skin and an Elle McPherson body. In addition to round abdomens and pendulous breasts, common attributes of ancient goddesses include uncompromising strength, compassion, and justice. Spend time figuring out who you are, who you want to be, and then honor your true self in the image you present to everyone you meet. Write your own eulogy and then circle the top five things you would like people to remember you for. Then, live by those attributes to make them a habit.

Self-acceptance. If you don’t love yourself, don’t expect others to love you either. If you let others treat you badly, you are telling your inner psyche that you don’t deserve better. The modern goddess girl never, ever allows herself to accept second place. She gathers her personal power and her self-esteem and learns to say words like “No” and “Enough.” Most importantly, mean what you say! On the other side of the coin, give compliments freely, because if “what goes around comes around,” she’ll soon enjoy getting a lot in return.

self expression. What you say is what you get. Expressions like “I can never get over this obstacle” will manifest exactly the way you describe them. Instead of confronting and overcoming your fears, you will remain stuck, banging your head against the brick wall that you say cannot be broken down. Change your speaking habits to dispel the negatives and embrace the positives. Say “I can do it” and the next thing you know you’ll be leaping brick walls in one jump.

self reflection. Get over the minor issues and open your vision to see the big picture. If you are engrossed in trivial concerns, they are most likely a distraction mechanism to take you away from what you really need. If you had three months to live, would you really care about your lipstick shade, upgrading your mobile phone, or getting the best table at the hottest restaurant in town? It’s up to you to prioritize what the really important things are. Make a list of your dreams for the next week, year and/or decade. Circle one thing on each list and commit to making it happen, one step at a time.

self knowledge. See yourself as a tiny organism in the ways of the world, both on the physical and non-physical planes, in the present and the future. Disconnecting from the world from time to time can be healthy if it allows you to travel to a place of knowledge, wisdom, understanding, and spiritual connection without space or time. To revitalize weak energy levels, practice yoga and meditation when possible. Poor weather? Disconnect the phone and rest for five minutes; this break to oneself can be just as refreshing.

Today, we are allowed to build the life we want for ourselves, regardless of a damaging past, level of education, or social conditioning. It simply requires the decision to live life with intention, to make conscious decisions in all aspects of your life that allow you to respect the goddess within you: yourself.
