Choosing the perfect time to start decorating your new room may seem like a simple enough task to start planning, preparing and designing your baby’s room. It’s a bit more complicated, as many parents who have tried it on their own find out when planning. This article is designed for parents who may need a list of do’s and don’ts when planning and designing their nursery. Unfortunately, not all parents can stay home and design and plan all day.

First, make sure you are at least 16 weeks pregnant and without previous complications. Before you plan, you need to make sure that the pregnancy is likely to carry to term. A miscarriage is horrible enough without having a full nursery to have to tear down, sadly.

Second, choose the furniture. Many parents will want to wait until they know the gender of their child to do this. Since there are so many options nowadays and the furniture is not all unisex anymore. Choose a good brand, resistant, well made and preferably convertible. Choose hardwood construction or pine, oak, cedar. Million Dollar Baby and Angel Line have been the best quality cribs I have come in contact with in the last 7 years of business.

Third, choose the theme. Popular topics are:

Little girl – Garden, Rose, Rainbow, Winnie the Pooh, Disney Princess, Flowers, Hearts, Under the Sea, Moon and Stars/Celestial, Insects, Dragonflies, Pond and Jungle/Safari.

Guy – Jungle/Safari, Transportation, Sports, Cars, Blues, Patchwork, Nautical.

Some nursery styles can be found online by typing “Nursery by Theme”, “Nursery Themes”, “Boy Crib Bedding”, “Girl Crib Bedding”

Once you’ve chosen a theme, setting a price cap is always a good thing. Many retail stores still offer lay-away, and some online stores do as well. Most baby bedding sets will cost between $35.99 (poor quality) and $500.00 (excellent quality). Mid-priced baby bedding (Cocalo, Lambs and Ivy, Bedtime Originals, Kidsline, Bananfish, Crown Crafts Products) ranges from $89.00 to $189.00 and is very good quality with excellent resale value. Nursery accessories are usually always available with any baby bedding set. The most useful accessories are: musical mobile, blankets, one or two extra sheets, basket, diaper stacker, baby baskets and baby lamp. Other accessories may include: picture frames, rugs, crib toys, valances, wall borders, wall decor/wall hangings, stuffed toys, pillows, matching stroller and diaper covers, light switches, night lights, growth, shelving and more.

If you are shopping online, be sure to allow at least 2-6 weeks for delivery of any baby bedding priced at 180.00 or more. This is in the designer baby bedding category and most stores will not have the baby bedding directly in stock online, unless they are returns or a conglomerate like Babies R Us.

It does not matter that –

If you buy online, make sure the website is secure at checkout. How to do this is simply to look at the address bar where it says http//. Make sure it says https://. The s stands for sure.
