Brazilian bikini wax is definitely the most talked about type of bikini waxing. It originated, as the name suggests, in Brazil and was brought to North America by immigrants – seven sisters who opened a salon in New York City in the late 1980s.

Since then, Brazilian waxing has slowly become a new fashion trend and gained momentum mainly thanks to numerous celebrities accepting it as a lifestyle choice. But in fact, it is much more than just a fashion statement. It has more to do with hygiene and, more importantly, a feeling of freedom, freshness, a truly unique feeling.

So what exactly is Brazilian wax and how does it differ from other bikini waxing styles? The most important difference is that Brazilian wax removes all pubic hair and I mean the front and the back. Optionally, you can keep a narrow strip of hair in the front, but the real, full Brazilian takes it all away. It does not come without a price. One, it is literally more expensive than the other types of waxing and two, it removes hair from the most sensitive areas that it can and is usually painful. There are several ways to manage bikini waxing pain, but it never completely eliminates it, especially when it comes to Brazilian. Typically, a full Brazilian wax takes about 30 minutes or more. It depends on the amount of hair that needs to be removed. Before treatment, you need to cut your pubic hair at least 1/4 inch to make it easier to pull.

In addition to pain, there is another physiological barrier and that is the fact that Brazilian wax requires you to remove your underwear in front of the technician, so it can be quite uncomfortable if you are not used to this treatment. It gets easier as you do it more often. You may be tempted to make your own Brazilian at home, but it is not recommended if you are inexperienced. You can literally hurt yourself. In this case, we would probably suggest starting with something less drastic like American or French wax.

Full Brazilian bikini wax can be dangerous as it can lead to infection if not done right. I recommend letting the professional do the process for you. Find a good salon or clinic that specializes in this type of hair removal treatment and do your due diligence before deciding to proceed with the treatment. Not all salons do an equally good job.
