There is simply too much variety in the laptop space for one size or style to suit everyone’s needs.
Walk around the block down any laptop aisle and you’ll probably notice that the selection of laptops has gotten dramatically slimmer and sleeker. The most essential thing is that the general category has been reduced in general terms. Whether you’re looking for ultra-slim ultraportables, mainstream PCs, or gaming rigs, today’s laptops in every mix are thinner, smaller, and better suited for life on the go. The best of these models will still perform quite well, especially if you’re contemplating a business system that won’t weigh you down when you travel to get work done, but also offer remarkable performance and the most useful ones come with several high-end features as well. Touch screens (with 1080p resolution), full-size HDMI displays, and eight or more hours of battery life are commonplace, and premium laptops (at advanced prices) now have high-resolution displays, up to power at 3,840 by 2,160 resolution (4K) at the top end of the bar.
On the small end of the spectrum, 12-inch and 13-inch laptops, or ultraportables (more on that below), are worth considering if you plan to bring your laptop with you. These models are small enough to weigh 3 pounds or less, but big enough to include a full-size keyboard and a decent-sized screen. The downside is that port selection tends to be minimal due to the limited amount of space available on the side panels. These laptops are generally good for simple needs like web browsing or modest word processing, and are a good choice for business travelers who need to carry a laptop frequently. Even smaller 10-inch and 13-inch laptops have even less port space and will have smaller keyboards and key spacing, so you’ll have to adjust your typing style to accommodate.
