Whether you’re at home or away, a personal portable sauna will allow you to enjoy the health benefits of a sauna anywhere.

You can buy a portable infrared sauna or a portable steam sauna.

Let’s look at some advantages and disadvantages of these mini “saunas” compared to full size saunas.

Advantages

Portable saunas are comfortable and very easy to use. No tools are required for setup, and all you need for power is a standard electrical outlet.

They are light. Portable models typically weigh between 10 and 65 pounds. This makes it easy to move or take with you while you travel.

They are cheaper. Most cost only a fraction of what a full size sauna would cost you.

There is no hot air to breathe. With most portable units, you sit or lie down (depending on the model) with your head out. This is a benefit if breathing hot air is uncomfortable for you. There are models that include an optional head cover in case you want to cover your entire body.

Faster heating time. The heating time is about 5 minutes. Full size saunas can last 2-5 times longer.

They are compact. Portable saunas are not only easy to use; They are also easy to store because they don’t take up a lot of space. Some models are even foldable and you can store them in a corner or closet.

Disadvantages

Two potential downsides come to mind…

1. A portable mini sauna may not feel like a ‘real’ sauna. Some people really enjoy the intense heat within the enclosure of a traditional sauna. If you are one of these people, you probably won’t enjoy a portable sauna as much.

The heat buildup just doesn’t compare.

2. Another possible downside is that the smaller structure can make some people feel a bit claustrophobic.

Compact saunas may not offer the experience of full-size saunas, but…

If receiving the health benefits of a sauna is your main concern, then a personal portable sauna is an option worth considering, especially if you want to save space and money.
