New Mexico is an enchanting land of diverse culture, beautiful scenery, famous museums and art galleries. Established in 1607 and declared a US state in 1912, New Mexico is known for its distinctive flavor of Indian, Hispanic and Anglo-Saxon culture and tradition. It is the fifth largest state in the country, with a population of less than 2 million.

The state of New Mexico can be divided into 6 regions namely Northwest, Northeast, North Central, Central, Southwest, and Southeast. Major cities are Santa Fe and Taos in the North Central region and Albuquerque in the Central region. The state abounds in natural beauty, with the Rocky Mountains to the north and the Chihuahuan Desert to the south. There are about a hundred lakes and rivers, 13 national parks and monuments, and 2 state parks. The state also has 12 popular ski slopes. These attractions naturally make it a popular tourist destination.

New Mexico owes much of its fame to art and culture. It ranks after Los Angeles and New York as the art market in the US The state, with its many tribes, offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to unique tribal culture. Tourism represents one of the main sources of income for the state. The economy of the state is mainly based on tourism. However, the low cost of living has made the state an economically viable option for entrepreneurs. There is a visible increase in the proportion of business investments made in the area and the consequent influx of people. This is combined with the presence of some of the important centers of learning, such as the University of New Mexico. New Mexico, with its unique cultural fabric and fast-paced economic development agenda, has proven to be a progressive US state.
