When a goal is scored it is always because of a great play by the offense, or a lousy play by the defense. With that said, here are some of the most common ways players will score goals in a hockey game and how you can tell when they’re going to happen.

1) bounces

When a goalkeeper concedes a rebound, it will usually be from a low shot from the defenses. Higher shots don’t rebound as much because it’s much easier for the goalie to control the puck with his hands than with his feet. When you notice a low shot going towards the keeper, you should set yourself up for a rebound and possibly an easy goal.

2) Unique

When a player scores a one-half goal, it is usually because he placed himself in a spot the goalkeeper was not prepared for. However, the player who scores that goal also has to receive a good pass from his teammate.

If you want to score a one time goal then you need to position yourself on the side of the net that the keeper is not covering, this will make it harder for the keeper to stop your shot very quickly.

side notes

In a single play, the goalkeeper will be forced to slide towards you to stop the puck. If you can get the puck up over the goalkeeper, the chances of it going in will be much better.

3) Screens

There are two parts to spotting a goalie.

The first part is that you have to have a good enough shot to get the puck into the net without hitting your own player. The second part is that the player standing in front of the goalie has to be able to block the goalie while he watches the puck. If the puck is coming at him, he should move out of the way and let it hit the goalie. Sometimes this will give you a bounce.
