Infrared blaster is a device that mimics the functions of an infrared remote control. It is usually connected to a computer and is a mini device that mechanically feeds itself from the PC it is connected to. In this way, the system acts as a remote control and can access and control virtually all other IR devices such as TV, VCR, etc.

The IR blaster can output three different types of signals, such as the spatial signal, the RC5 signal, and a pulse coded signal. There are a number of applications, the most common being used to control a DVD or video recorder. We can change and select channel on a television connected to a satellite receiver automatically and record the programs. The principle of operation is very similar to that of an IR remote control, except that the device has a converter that changes digital signals to infrared light. Infrared lights are very safe for the user and are not visible to the human eye as such. It also travels by air. With an IR blaster you can control a primary device like VCR and on the other hand you could probably control a TV by means of the secondary IR beam generated by the blaster. These are also used to extend the range of a remote by keeping it in a place where the remote can’t see. They also expand the mobility of the user.

It is an uncomplicated piece of equipment and it is easy to use. Sometimes it’s bewildering to configure with new devices. They are quite expensive and the selling price depends on various factors such as quality, sensitivity, type and purpose of use. They usually come with other products and are semi-permanent.
