Your home should be all about you! It should represent you and who you are, and this starts with colors. Your home’s interior design should be based on all the colors you like and love, with just a dash or two of the colors you don’t necessarily like but provide contrast and enhancement.

From ceiling and wall colors to flooring and furniture, every color you choose should be based on your favorite, in a variety of hues, or offsetting complementary hues.

Starting with the ceilings and walls, choose your favorite colors as these will be the ones you will see when you enter the room.

The next step is to take those colors and select a floor that matches those colors, making a statement about who you are and the purpose of the room.

For a formal living room or dining room, choose rugs or rugs that match the colors of the ceiling and wall. By choosing two colors for the walls and a third for the ceiling, and then selecting an area rug or rug of a fourth color, this can tie all the tones together. This would be the ideal choice. You can then move on to selecting furniture that accents the room and tells a story about you.

In the den or living room, choose a sofa that blends well with the walls, then add cushions to accent the sofa with one or another of the wall colors or perhaps the ceiling color. Next, select armchairs or a recliner that are made from fabrics that will match the sofa perfectly, or use a patterned fabric to provide an accent that could include several of the colors used in the room.

Window treatments should also be in your favorite colors, mixing or matching the walls and furniture. There could be a fifth color in this dynamic, as long as this tone is one more representation of your tastes. Combining window treatments with cushions and rugs is very effective. How about matching lampshades too?

There are so many ways you can bring your own special colors into your home, the possibilities are endless. By choosing the various shades and hues of your favorite colors, your guests will instantly recognize that they are in your home and will be able to appreciate the warmth and personality expressed in your surroundings.
