The versatility of 5 gallon buckets has been discussed in our previous posts. Its uses at home, in the garden, in the office and at the campsite have proven to be a great advantage for people who want to lead an organized and practical life without spending too much money. To add to that advantage, we also need to know how to repurpose 5 gallon buckets into something else that has a different function. Here’s how to properly clean 5 gallon buckets.

First of all, you need to prepare the following materials:

  • dishwashing detergent
  • baking soda
  • Scrub
  • Chlorine bleach

Then follow these steps:

  • Completely empty the bucket of sticky dust, debris, or any visible dirt you see in it.
  • Then pour some dishwashing detergent into the bottom of the bucket and mix it with warm water.
  • Scrub the surface of the bucket well, starting from the inside working towards the outside of the bucket.
  • Empty the bucket and rinse it under warm water to remove any soap residue.
  • Once it looks clean, fill it with hot water and add a cup of baking soda.
  • Close the lid and leave it in the sun for 48 hours.
  • When it’s time, empty the bucket once more and fill it with warm water.
  • Have 2 cups of chlorine bleach ready and pour it into the water.
  • Stir well.
  • Put it back in the sun for another 48 hours.
  • Empty the bucket and rinse it along with its lid.
  • Put it back under the sun to dry.

Now your 5 gallon bucket is clean and ready for your next use.
