I am always looking for easy and delicious dessert recipes to try on my family. Baking is one of my favorite things to do, but I always like to keep it simple. The best part about chocolate decadence cookies is that they look elaborate, but they are so easy to make. If chocolate is your indulgence, these cookies will do the trick. I am also a chocolate lover and I am always looking for a cookie recipe that combines chocolate and nuts. I consider this combination my guilty pleasure and decadent chocolate chip cookies have quickly become my favorite dessert.

great with ice cream

Not only do I love chocolate chip cookies, but I also enjoy pairing them with ice cream for a hearty family dessert. These decadent chocolate chip cookies taste great with vanilla ice cream. I find that making homemade ice cream to go with these cookies just makes the treat more flavorful. My kids can’t get enough of the rich chocolate flavor of these cookies combined with the flavor of ice cream. So instead of making brownies and sundaes, I opt for cookies and fudge sundaes.

recipe tips

One of the best parts of this easy recipe has to do with the amount of flour that is required. These cookies only require ¼ cup of flour for a full batch. This means that the main ingredients are chocolate and nuts. You get a rich dessert that is pretty basic to make, but full of flavor. If you prefer pecans to walnuts, you can adjust the recipe accordingly. I just start melting the chocolate and I’m on my way to a delicious batch of decadent chocolate chip cookies that won’t last long. Just remember not to overcook these cookies, because they won’t taste as delicious.

birthday dessert

My kids love these cookies so much that I often make them as a cake substitute. Because they go so well with ice cream, they make a great dessert for a birthday party. If your kids love chocolate, you can try this recipe at your next birthday party and get rave reviews.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/8 teaspoon salt

8 ounces bittersweet chocolate (60% cocoa), chopped

2 butter spoons

2 large eggs

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

6 ounces bittersweet chocolate chips

2 cups walnuts, coarsely chopped

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Place the racks in the upper and lower thirds of the oven.

2. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a small bowl and mix well with a whisk. Set aside.

3. Place the 8 ounces of chocolate and butter in a large heatproof bowl placed directly over a wide skillet of just simmering water. Stir frequently until melted and smooth. Remove the chocolate from the pan and set it aside. Leave the fire going under the pan.

4. In a medium heatproof bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, and vanilla. Place bowl in skillet and stir until mixture is warm to the touch. Stir the egg mixture into the warm (not hot) chocolate. Add the flour mixture, then the chocolate chips and nuts.

5. Scoop out slightly rounded dollops of dough and place 1 1/2 inches apart on parchment-lined baking sheets. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, until the top of the cookie looks dry and firm and the centers are still sticky. Turn the sheets top down and front to back halfway through the cooking time to ensure even cooking. Slide the parchment paper off the cookie sheets and onto the racks to cool. Allow cookies to cool completely before storing. It can be kept in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
