One of the main characteristics shared by almost all people who are part of the 95% of the population who do not experience the life they want is the propensity to have highly developed negative mental attitudes. One characteristic shared by nearly all of the 5% who live their dreams is that they have developed positive mindsets, or PMAs.

If you want to know how pervasive negative attitudes are, take a few minutes and listen, really listen to the conversations going on around you on a daily basis. Take your attention away from your own internal dialogue and pay close attention to others. You can go half a day or maybe all day without hearing a conversation that indicates someone with PMA is talking.

What is a positive mental attitude? What is a negative mental attitude? Which one do you have? How do you know which one you have? Before I give you the definitions I have adopted, I ask you to stop for a moment and really think about how you would describe your general mental attitude.

The definition of PMA that I adopted and practiced was provided by Dr. Dennis Waitley, author of The Psychology of Winning, who said that A POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE IS THE (CONSISTENT) EXPECTATION OF THE BEST POSSIBLE OUTCOME IN ANY AND ALL SITUATIONS. This is not an attitude of simply wishing or hoping. A positive mental attitude is a state of positive expectation at a level so high that it borders on certainty. Developing PMA is the cornerstone to control your mental power.

A negative mental attitude I define as the constant expectation of the worst outcome in most situations. A certain indicator of the presence of a negative mental attitude is when you hear people talk about how they hope for the best but expect the worst in relation to a particular situation, or hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Rich Dad Poor Dad author Robert Kiyosaki says that the people in the 95% of the population, whom he calls poor, live in perpetual fear. By the way, rich and poor are the only two financial classes of people in this world. Almost all the decisions that the poor make are motivated by fear, mainly the fear of losing.

The events that unfolded in the financial markets around the world, during the last weeks of September 2008, generated a fear so thick that it can almost be cut with a knife. Here is something you should consider. Fear cannot be sustained in a mind where PMA resides.

Imagine how powerful and wonderful it is, or would be, to watch this financial turmoil with PMA; knowing positively along with Napoleon Hill that EVERY ADVERSITY (INCLUDING THIS) CARRIES IN IT THE SEED OF AN EQUIVALENT OR GREATER BENEFIT (for those with PMA); and hope for the best possible outcome in this situation.

You have just received two very powerful affirmations. There is absolutely no better time than right now to start repeating them endlessly, as it is written in the Christian Bible in relation to prayer.

Also make sure you have a big, worthy goal that you’re moving toward. Don’t be distracted by the supposed evidence screaming at you on television and in the newspapers. Believe in yourself. Trust yourself to make good decisions. The same power that guided Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Robert Kiyosaki, and Napoleon Hill on their journeys resides within you right now, in this moment, to guide you on your journey.

This I know for sure. You can reclaim or claim control of your own mental power. You are the most miraculous of all living things on earth. You are the owner of a mind that is so stupendous, that as you really begin to control the power of your mind and use it consciously, there is no dream you can dream that you cannot achieve.
