I first tried this dessert at a French restaurant in Ghana when I was in high school and it has been one of my favorite desserts ever since!

Ingredients:

1 puff pastry sheet (thawed)
5 granny smith apples
1/2 cup of sugar
1/4 cup salted butter
1 small egg (for beaten egg)
1 tablespoon of water

Addresses:

1. Pour the sugar into a pan and melt it over low heat
2. Add the butter to the caramelized sugar and stir until completely melted.
3. Pour into a 9-inch Pyrex pie plate and allow to set.
4. Beat the egg and 1 tablespoon of water in a mug and set aside
5. While the caramel is cooling, peel the apples and cut each apple into quarters
6. place and pack the apples tightly in the cake pan
7. Preheat oven to 375F
8. Unfold the puff pastry on a floured surface
9. Roll out a sheet of dough with a rolling pin and place on top of the apples; tuck the extra dough into the cake pan
10. Brush the puff pastry with the egg mixture
11. use a fork and poke some holes in the dough
12. place the pie plate on a baking sheet, place in preheated oven and bake for 35 minutes
13. Let the tarte tatin cool for about 15 minutes
14. Loosen the edges of the tatin with a knife, then place a plate over the baking dish and turn it over so that the caramelized apples are on top.

Serve hot with some vanilla ice cream.
