Why do you need a treadmill mat for your exercise equipment?

There are 3 reasons to buy a fitness equipment mat:

  1. Protect your equipment;
  2. Protect your floor; and
  3. Reduces treadmill noise.

Mats are very inexpensive considering how much they protect both fitness equipment and the floor.

1. Does it protect your exercise equipment?

The mats are made of PVC, which is like a rubber mat. They are essentially a very sturdy exercise mat. This means they are like a sponge creating a smoother surface than your concrete garage or basement, vinyl, laminate or hardwood floors. Obviously, using a treadmill requires you to pound the treadmill (or whatever exercise equipment you have), which, if it’s on a hard surface, the treadmill has no effect (carpet is an exception, but what about protection from your carpet?).

The give a mat results in less mismatch in your rig’s frame and components, which is beneficial in the long run.

2. Protect your soil

Unless you use your exercise equipment on concrete, long-term use could damage your floor. Treadmills (and all gym equipment) are heavy. They can be scratched, dented, and chipped, depending on the surface. A mat is an inexpensive way to protect your floor and is not inconvenient to put on.

In addition, fitness equipment is a machine with lubricants. Over time, an exercise machine can leak lubricant on your floor, which can damage it.

3. Reduce noise

The sponge-like mat also helps cushion and muffle the noise an exercise machine makes. Any household appreciates reducing treadmill noise. Carbide on a hard surface is likely to be noisier than carbide from a treadmill on a sponge-like material.

Fortunately, quality treadmill mats are inexpensive and well worth the money. It is also very likely that your online treadmill store sells treadmill mats. Don’t forget to check out your fitness equipment store’s accessories—it could save your floor and extend your equipment.
