I recently read an article that a particular direct sales company was a scam. Some of the reasons for his opinion were;

  • The company had caused severe hardship for everyone associated with the company.
  • New consultants were scammed into buying a lot of inventory
  • The company is always changing products, so you have to buy more.
  • None of the consultants make any money, they just tell you yes.

I guess the same could be said for companies like Microsoft. I am a customer of theirs and they always encourage me to upgrade my OS or buy the new office suite! That’s a lot of money every year! I certainly don’t use all the bells and whistles on shows (this equates to the pile of unused stuff in the garage these reviewers talk about). They totally scammed me into buying the latest version of Office and now they have another one they expect me to buy! Why can’t they just calm down enough and stop changing their software… Oh, and because I bought it without my husband’s permission, my marriage is falling apart.

Truth be told… we’re all adults here. We have the ability to make our own decisions. When someone sits me down and explains the options, I am responsible for taking out my credit card and making the purchase. It’s as simple as that! If you don’t have the finances, don’t buy it.

Is direct sales a scam?

I guess some are, however if you do your due diligence you will make an informed decision, correct? I am so tired of hearing people whine and complain about what other people or big bad companies made them do. When do we stop being responsible for our own actions? Really, is it easier to blame everyone and everything else? It is time to take responsibility for our choices.

Entering a company is only the beginning. Once you sign on the dotted line and become a consultant, affiliate, etc., you really need to go to work. I can guarantee you that most people who sign up with MLM or direct sales companies don’t try hard enough to see results. Gyms sign people up every day and you’d think they’d get too crowded. The place I go to is never full, but there sure are a lot of people still paying for memberships. I guess this is the fact that the direct sales scam reviewer and the writer of that article missed it. Let’s grow up and make things happen instead of sitting in the corner blaming others.
