Call Me If You Get Lost!

It is quite common to hear people say, “I got lost and I called my friend who lives near my house”, or “I called my friend who lives near my house and he is on his way home too”. We have all been there at some time or the other. I can remember when I called the local telephone company to find out whether they were sending someone for me. My friend lives in Houston, Texas. I live in California. How was the response of the telephone company?

They said they would send a truck with three men to get me, but it never came. So then I got really confused and wondered why they wouldn’t send someone to get me when they said they would. So then I decided that perhaps I had been trying to call them as well so I called them back and repeated my question. This is how we met again.

So, now you may be wondering how you too can use a phone number to find a friend when you get lost. Here is one technique that worked for me. The first time I used this technique I found an old copy of a travel brochure for a very reasonable price. I opened it and printed out the phone number that was in the brochure. I brought it to my car and parked it under my car seat while I placed the phone under my pillow.

When I got home, I went to my computer and printed out the same poster size print that I had on my phone. I attached it to my cell phone screen. Then I immediately called my friend in Houston and asked him if he could pick up the phone and call me if he got lost. He said sure, just hold on just a second.

When he arrived, I told him that I remembered him from our last meeting and asked him if he remembered my poster. He laughed and said that he had forgotten about it. I showed him my print and he laughed too. Then I explained to him that I had found it online and asked him if he could call me if he got lost. He said sure, I’ll be right back with the phone.

When he arrived he took the phone and looked at it. Then he said that he would call me if he got lost. We chatted on the phone and he even made arrangements to pick up our lunch at a local restaurant. I gave him a card that I had saved so that if he ever needed any help finding a local hotel or restaurant, he could always use my card. Thank you very much, stranger for doing something so simple, and I will always consider this story one of the best times that I have ever received an envelope with a new telephone number, even though I forgot your name.
