Morrowind is the hardest game I’ve ever played, and if it weren’t for these helpful tips and tricks, I found that I would never have survived my first encounter with mud crabs. Without these tips, you will find yourself dying over and over again from the same idiots that live in the dungeons. I have listed them from highest to lowest importance.

1. Be quick. There are a few ways to become the fastest person in Morrowind. I recommend snagging the blinding speed boots. These are mystical boots that increase speed by 200 points and blind you by 100 points. They can be found in the West Gash region, specifically along the road southwest from Buckmoth Legion Fort. Trust me, you need these boots (tip, Argonians and Khajiites can’t wear boots, sorry). Counter blindness with a potion or resist the magic spell. It is also not necessary to create a 100% resistance magic spell. It is much easier for lower level characters to cast multiple resistance magic spells like resist at 50% and resist at 50%. This speed will make traveling the world of Morrowind much easier and you will be able to outrun almost all enemies.

2. Decide what you want up front. Character creation is the hardest part of the game. You must decide from the start whether you want to hack and slash, sneak and murder, or fly and rain fire on your enemies. I recommend that you review all types of characters before choosing one. I created at least seven characters before deciding to stick with one. My favorite is a wood elf archer with an extra flair. Sneaking around is a great thing to level up because you do double damage when you hit an enemy in stealth mode, very easy to do with a good arrow.

3. Save frequently and in many files. Morrowind is the definition of a sandbox game. They literally let you go and allow you to kill anyone. This is great freedom, but you don’t want to accidentally massacre a city and find out two weeks later that you can’t complete a mission because the man you’re supposed to talk to died by your hand. Use lots of files and save them before making important decisions.

4. Steal whenever possible. Life is tough sometimes and potions are not cheap. As long as your stealth indicator says you are invisible, you can steal without consequences. There is one extremely important thing to keep in mind when stealing, don’t try to sell it at the store you just robbed. He knows his own merchandise and will inform the authorities. This does not mean that you cannot go down the street and sell your things to other people.

5. Learn to fly. There are many ways to fly in the world of Morrowind. I think the easiest thing is to do a levitation spell. At first you can use it by casting it over and over again. Flying allows you to avoid mountains and obstacles that would frustrate you greatly. Just get ready to fight a cliff runner every 45 seconds.

6. Talking mud crab. There is a crab to the east of the town of Vivec that talks and sells merchandise. This crab is very special because it will have up to 5,000 gold every day. This gold can be redeemed for items you discover and collect.

7. Nobody else steals. The whole game can be used as a storage device. If you drop something somewhere, it will stay there for the entirety of the game. Use it to your advantage.

Hope these tips and tricks help. One website that I found really useful while playing was http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind Morrowind, check it out, it has a lot of great information.
