When you are camping, you would like to prepare meals and snacks that do not require a lot of time and effort. In addition to the main meals, snacks are also important for the environment and especially around the campfire. But being at camp doesn’t mean all you have to eat is a trail mix – here are some quick, easy-to-try snacks that are delicious!

Easy Campfire Fruit Tarts

What do you need:

  • 1 package of small crackers (such as Pillsbury Jr. Grands), chilled

  • 2 cans of pie filling of your choice (apple, blueberry, cherry, raspberry, etc.)

  • Canned whipped cream

  • Cakes on fire sticks (or you can use a small stainless steel cup / shot glass and any long stick)

Shape 1 cookie dough around the outside of the stainless steel mug. If you don’t use tarts on fire sticks, insert a stick into the opening of the mug to hold it over the fire. Grill the cookie over an open heat (not directly on the heat), turning frequently for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown.

Place the toasted cookie on a plate, fill the opening with the fruit filling of your choice and top with whipped cream. Let cool for a couple of minutes before serving.

French Toast Pizza

What do you need:

  • Mini loaves of French bread

  • Cream cheese, softened

  • Pizza sauce

  • Grated mozzarella cheese

  • Pizza toppings of your choice (pepperoni, sausage, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, pineapple chunks, etc.)

  • Sturdy aluminum foil

Cut the loaf of French bread in half. Spread a thin layer of cream cheese on both open sides of the bread, followed by a thin layer of pizza sauce. Spoon the toppings of your choice on the bottom half of the loaf and top with shredded mozzarella cheese. Replace the top of the bread to make a sandwich.

Wrap tightly with sturdy aluminum foil, making sure each loaf is wrapped at least 2 times. Place prepared breads on a grill over a campfire (or hot coals) for 6-8 minutes, turning several times to cook evenly.

Remove from heat and leave for a few minutes before opening the aluminum foil. Best served hot. Store in gallon size Ziploc bags.

When you are outdoors, you will need to eat well to maintain your energy. You don’t want to miss your hike or other fun activities! Try these quick and easy campfire snacks – delicious bites you’re sure to love – you’ll even want to make them at home!
