As a career consultant, I try to read as many books as I can on this topic. I just finished reading Now What: A Youth Guide to Choosing the Perfect Career by Nicholas Lore. I had high expectations writing this book based on the last book I read by this author. I must say that I was not disappointed.
The first two chapters are pretty basic and a bit boring, as the author describes various tests that college students can take to learn about their personality types and what careers they would be best suited for. The best part of the book is the toolkit that Lore provides. This allows the reader to engage and learn while reading. The book forces you to take action in pursuit of your career and actually encourages and motivates you along the way.
However, there were a couple of negatives. The only thing I didn’t like was that the author connects his testing and training services and at times I felt like I was reading a promotional article for his business rather than a book that was supposed to inform and educate. The other negative was that the negative economy we are in and how that affects people just starting out in their careers was never mentioned.
Overall, I recommend this book to any high school or college student ready to start looking for a career. It is difficult, so the more you can read and prepare, the better it will go for you.
